Super Plants, Extra DNA
What would life be without bread, fruit or sugar? Many of the plants that feed us – including bananas and wheat – have extra sets of chromosomes. These “super plants” are not GMOs, but natural innovations that can outperform their “regular” relatives. By studying how evolution has reshaped their genomes, researchers can better understand what makes them so successful – and how this knowledge could help us grow better crops in the future.
